Wednesday night in Howell, the Highlanders played their first every Unified Basketball game against Northville and while Howell came out on the losing end of the score 18-15 I think it is safe to say that everyone on the floor walked away as winners. 

I realize that there are a lot of people who are unfamiliar with Unified sports.  They are a program started by the Special Olympics and are designed to do what sports do best, bring people together. The Unified Sports program brings people with and without intellectual disabilities together on the same team. The guiding principle is that training together and playing together will help to foster friendship and understanding. 

Watching Wednesday night’s game, it was evident that both the participants on the floor and those in the stands cheering them on were inspired in the same way that I was photographing.
